Is Re-Gifting Allowed? What to do with Unwanted Quince-Gifts

We’ve all had an experience when a gift we receive turns out to be more of a nightmare than a splendid surprise. Whether you receive a piece of clothing that is three sizes too small (ouch!), or you receive a gift that was obviously manufactured for the opposite sex (yikes!), believe it or not these less then perfect gifts may come in handy. When it comes to re-gifting, when is it allowed and how do you go about getting rid of that dreadful gift without looking cheap and ungrateful?
Gifts not intended for your gender
Why a guest of yours decided to give you a pack of boy briefs as a birthday present is beyond my understanding. And whether it was a gag gift or not is no longer the point. The question at hand is now what will you do with this pack of boy undies that will obviously never serve you any purpose?! In this worst-case scenario, keeping the undies may come in handy. If you happen to have boy cousins or brothers, you can simply store them until their birthday rolls around, or you can just hand them over to them right away. Another great option would be to hold on to them in case your boy cousins were to sleep over one night and forget an extra pair of undies. It’s a stretch, but if you got them as a gift to begin with, then it’s fair to say that anything can happen!
Gifts not intended for your lifestyle
If you’re obviously a punk-princess and a guest of yours gave you a Hannah Montana DVD collection, you may find yourself wondering, “what were they thinking?!” But, it’s fair to assume that this gift-giver may not to be in tune with your sense of style as opposed to thinking that they were out to get under your skin. In cases such as these, re-gifting the item to a more “appropriate” candidate is a definite yes! Re-gift the item to a family member or a friend that rolls with the Hannah Montana crowd and surely the ever so popular DVD’s will make some kid a very happy camper.
Gifts not intended for anyone!
There are those gifts that should have never seen the light of day. Itchy sweaters sewn by your great, great, great aunt or one-piece adult pajamas in a unicorn pattern easily fall into this category. In cases such as these where you simply can’t risk your reputation as an awesome gift-giver by passing the item along, a great solution is to donate and bid farewell the far-from-adored gift. Make your way over to your local thrift store, church or non profit organization that takes walk-in donations, and turn your less than perfect gift into a gem for someone else.
