Professional Choreographers to the Rescue!

December 14, 2010 | [ 2 ]

A choreographer can help you dance like a pro to  classic and pop songs. The secret is to hire one and  practice the choreography well in advance.

One of the main events of your quinceañera  celebration is the series of dance choreographies you  will perform together with your damas and  chambelanes. There is nothing more exciting for a  quinceañera than the moment in which she steps into the dance floor accompanied by her court of honor. However, it’s not an easy thing to do. Many times, neither you nor your court of honor have dancing skills, which is why it’s important to take a few lessons several months prior to your quinceañera in order to keep in step on this special day.

“I recommend hiring a choreographer at least three months in advance” says José Sarmiento, director of America Dance Studios, a studio that specializes in dance lessons for weddings and quinceañeras. “During those three months you can learn an average of four choreographies by practicing twice a week, which is what most quinceañeras do for their celebration.”

The four choreographies mentioned by the expert are usually divided into the first waltz, general waltz, surprise dance, and exit waltz dance. “The most popular and attention-grabbing event is the surprise dance. Most young girls pick a hip hop theme although there are many options depending on what’s popular,” says José.

When it comes to the waltz dance main theme, Elías Delgado, owner and lead choreographer of Downey Dance Studio for more than 20 years, believes that quinceañeras are leaning towards classic songs such as “La marcha triunfal de Aída,” “El Danubio Azul,” and “Fascinación.” This is due to the increasing popularity of musical tracks by Richard Clayderman, Raul di Blasio, or Chayanne’s “Tiempo de Vals.”

You can find quinceañera specials that cost around $500, although each choreographer offers different elements such as free dance lessons or additional dance routines. So forget about your cousin, friend, or your dad’s friend and instead hire a professional choreographer that can help you dance and shine like a star.
