4 Different Scholarships for Hispanic Students

 The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), a  national organization whose mission is to develop  young Hispanic leaders, launched a nationwide  campaign to recruit high school, college, and graduate  Hispanic students for widely recognized scholarship  and leadership development programs.

What Each Scholarship Offers

  1. Congressional Internship Program: Gives college students the opportunity to work in the United States Congress for eight weeks (from June to August) so they can learn about the legislative process of our nation. Interns are required to conduct legislative research, monitor daily hearings, and assist with general office operations. Interns are provided with housing, round-trip transportation to Washington D.C., and a $2,500 stipend. The deadline to apply is January 9, 2009.
  2. Graduate & Young Professionals Fellowship Program: Offers exceptional Latino College graduates the opportunity to acquire professional experience in the areas of Health, Housing, Law, International Affairs, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The scholarship is available to all applicants who have graduated from an accredited educational institution or have three years of experience in the desired area. This competitive program consists of nine months of work experience in congressional committees, federal agencies, national non-profit defense organizations, or corporate offices. The program includes three months abroad in Mexico or Spain, transportation, health insurance, and a $2,700 stipend. The deadline to apply is February 13, 2009.
  3. Public Policy Fellowship Program: Takes place between September and May and provides college graduates with hands-on experience in national public politics within a Congressional office, federal agency, or the non-profit and business sector. Participants will receive health insurance, round-trip transportation to Washington D.C., and a $2,200 monthly stipend. The deadline to apply is February 13, 2009.
  4. Scholarship Program: Available for students who are enrolled in an accredited two-year college or university. Students who obtain an Associate’s Degree can apply for a $1,000 grant, $2,500 for students with a Bachelor’s Degree, and $5,000 for graduate students. The deadline to apply is April 16, 2009.

To be eligible for any scholarship, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have an outstanding leadership potential with references as well as a commitment to public and community service.
