The Dream Act and Young Students Like You
Each year many undocumented immigrant students graduate from U.S. high schools. Because of their status, they are denied the right to access student loans, financial aid, and scholarships. In spite of tremendous financial barriers, many still pursue higher education. Today at 2:15pm, the Senate will vote on the Motion to Proceed on the DREAM Act, which can benefit those kids.
The Dream Act would provide an opportunity for immigrant youth to pursue their dreams. America is a land of immigrants and the country has historically benefited from the contributions of immigrants over the generations.
Many young people were brought to this country when they were very young by their parents and relatives seeking a better life. They grew up in this country, attended our schools, and are part of the fabric of our society. Many have no memory of their native country.
Today, the Senate will vote on the Motion to Proceed on the DREAM Act, and you can let Capitol Hill know how you feel about it. If passed, the Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act would allow hundreds of thousands of young people a potential path to citizenship by allowing them to serve in the military and/or attend college. Only after the successful completion of either, can the person seek permanent status.
So, time is up for calling on members of Congress and the Obama Administration to take immediate steps to pass the DREAM Act in 2010, as part of the Defense Department authorization bill. If passed, the DREAM Act would provide legal status to hundreds of thousands of immigrant youth who could earn legal status through pursuing higher education or serving in the U.S. military.

Time is of essence, please contact your own U.S. Senators. You may find the contact information for your Senators by clicking here:
You may phone the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate office you request.
If you are not sure what to say when you call, here’s an example of what you can say:
“Hello, this is [FIRST AND LAST NAME] from [CITY, STATE] I am calling to tell [SENATOR’S NAME] to support the DREAM Act amendment on the Defense Appropriations Bill. The DREAM Act is a critical part of America’s future, as it allows young people to give back to the country they call home through their hard work, service, and dedication. Thank you.”
