Each year, the Verizon Wireless “My Fabulous Quince” contest gives one lucky Quinceañera the opportunity to win a personal performance by one of the hottest acts of the moment. This year, that performer is Puerto Rican reggaeton star Daddy Yankee.
“The Quinceanera is an important thing in Latin culture,” said the Latin superstar about his collaboration with the contest. “The main reason why I wanted to do this is because I want to be part of a Quinceañera’s life and her family.”
Aside from the personal performance, which is part of the grand prize, the winner also receives an all-expense-paid party for 100 guests, four Verizon smartphones, $1,000 in Verizon gift cards and a college scholarship. “It’s going to be a historical event for the winner!” he added. Entries for the 2012 “My Fabulous Quince” will be received until Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
As part of the contest, a series of meet and greets with the recording artist took over various Verizon Wireless stores across the US. 15-year-old Ishally Castillo from the city of Ontario was one of the many fans that donated an old cell phone in exchange for a VIP pass to meet the artist at the Chino, CA event. “I first met him in 2004 and I travel anywhere just to see him,” exclaimed the fanatic. “I’ll see him again in two weeks at his Greek Theatre concert. I love Daddy Yankee!”
During the Chino meet and greet the Latin Grammy Award winner confessed to not having much experience with Quinceañeras growing up, stating that in Puerto Rico it’s not widely celebrated. Nonetheless, he assures that his upcoming album release, “Prestige”, is the perfect party starter for any Quince celebration. “Once you hear it you can’t stop dancing,” he says. “And ‘Pasarela’ is the number one song for Quinceañeras right now. All the clubs are playing it!”
“Pasarela” is the album’s single that is currently on rotation. The first single, “Ven Conmigo,” which was a collaboration with bachatero Prince Royce, proved popular amongst fans receiving over 58,000,000 views on YouTube. It’s second single, “Lovumba”, is currently on rotation as well and is Yankee’s combination of love and rumba.
“The album is coming out on September 11 so wait for it,” he says. “It’s an album I’m very proud of and I’m sure all my Quinceañeras from Quinceanera.com will love.”
